Immediate Dentures
About
Immediate dentures often act as placeholder teeth following the removal of natural teeth. The main advantage of having an immediate denture is that you never have to worry about the appearance of missing teeth when out in public.
Immediate dentures require post-treatment procedures called reline. Reline is an essential treatment as the patients’ gums will experience shrinkage following teeth removal, and immediate dentures require relining to maintain optimal fit. Typically, patients require two to three occasions of temporary reline (soft-cushion-like material) until six months following teeth removal. After that, the patient will need a permanent reline or new dentures to finalise the treatment.
Immediate dentures require much commitment as they involve a few steps. In addition, patients often experience discomfort in the first two to three weeks after fitting as the new denture sits on the open wound that extractions have created.
